Vapour Lock

Post by diesel »

Ok. had my bike re-sprayed and after a few cut outs etc i found the cause to be a vapour lock in the tank. if i undo the cap you get a lovely hissing sound. Its been sprayed black, i left it in the sun earlier, went back to the bike and put my key in the tank and fuel sprayed out thru the lock shocking

the main vent that comes out of the right hand lower side of the tank is clear. is there something else i am missing? i did speak to the sprayer and i said " did u cover up all the vent holes b 4 u sprayed it " his replay was " vent holes? whoops" so thats a big no.

are there smaller vent holes etc.

the one at the bottom right rear of the tank isnt so much a vent as it is a drain for any water that would otherwise accumulate around the fuel filler recess and piss into the tank when you open it to fill up

afaik its the cap itself thats vented. have a poke around.

the vents are in the fuel lock/latch assembly itself. pull it apart and you will see a combination of SS ball and ruber flap check valves. On zxr 750's I have increased the size of the bleed holes and put a larger check ball in. but it souns like yours just needs cleaning. So just pull the fuel cap assembly apart and clean it all up. being careful to not loose the ball......cheers
