cant open tank!

hi ive a 92 zxr4 and i cant open the petrol tank, its been stood since the end of last summer and the lock on the petrol tank is fubard. ive tried a bit wd40 and it still isnt budging. the key just starts to twist and i really dont want to break the key as i only have the one. any suggestions? i was thinking of just busting the lock with a screwdriver but im a bit concerned about damaging the inside of the tank. any help appreciated.

NO YOU CANT

It can take a bit of effort but it is possible to get it open with a screwdriver and a bit of hammer type abuse.

I'd keep spraying it with WD40 or something similair let it soak over a day or two. Taking the bolts out doesn't work because the latch that holds the cap down is still in place.

Hi,

I had this on my 02 cruiser and that was used everyday! As cargo mentioned, just keep using WD40, trust me it's a real pain having to use more than 1 key to unlock locks on your bike. You could also try tapping the top of the cap with a small hammer, or... get a couple of keys cut and try unlocking it with the key.

this happend on my bike, i put the key in a tiny bit to kind of open up the barrel and spreayed WD down it then you have to literaly keep poping the key up and down constantly until itl open up, it will go with WD !!

Have you tried pushing the cap down while you turn? Works everytime for me.

yh pushing the cap down that works for me get couple keys cut incase
