I knew getting to them werent hard, it was just getting them out of the recess i wasnt 100% on, got a 10lb magnetic tip tool on the way now

10lbs.................x 16 shims thats 160lbs of shims in your engine......................... and theres me thinking about having my crankshaft lightened when all I need is to get some light weight shims
I reackon shims are less than 10 grammes each
Seriously it's dead easy to change shims the only tricky bit is discovering what size you have in there and then working out what size you need to put in to get the clearance right.
And of course do be carful you don't drop one into the depths of the engine....................for putting them back in I use a magnetised scribe to set the shim back in and then a non magentised thing to hold it in place whill I take the magnetised scribe away. Some angled tweezers are good as well
