Hello I,ve had to have the head skimmed due it it being slightly 'high' in the middle. Only problem is that since I have owned the bike I havnt skimmed it before. It does however have the tell-tell sign of the skim mark on the thermostat houseing (Had this mark before I had it skimmed). Therefore I believe its now been skimmed twice.
How will I know if too much has been skimmed off the head and now Mr Piston and Mr Valve will have a 'chat'? In other words, will turning it over by hand be enough or will I only know when the con-rod stretches at high rpm?
Thanks
Thickness of Head

Re: Thickness of Head
There is a limit the to how much you can skim....................
To properly check if valve and piston are too close or touching you need to do a dummy build with plastascine on the piston/pistons. turn it over take it apart and have a looky
I've no idea what the figures are...............but I do know that one of my engines needs two sealing washers on each spark plug to stop the plug tip touching the pistons
I suspect that you can remove quite a bit.............but too much might also cause running problems especially with regular pump fuel ? ?
Big jigsaw lots of sky and lots of blue bits
There are much smarter than me on here who will know........phone Roger ?
