Classic delamination of the tensioner blade......replace it.
And since your in there anyway a new camchain would be a good idea

Re: snapped cam chain, help :(
do i need any kind of special tool to keep the crank from turning or can i just put a 19mm spanner round it and use an allen socket to undo the bolt ?

Re: snapped cam chain, help :(
actually now that i think of it it might be a bad idea to use the 19mm spanner to hold it cos the little split pin that locates the rotor might get damaged.
So rattle gun is best or find some other way of stopping the engine from turning....................in gear and back brake on

Re: snapped cam chain, help :(
Ok iv rebuilt the engine and its back in the frame. I have just got the engine running but it sounds a bit rough. It sounds like its got a rattle, but iv changed the cam chain and guides, Iv also checked to see if its still under tension and it is. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be ?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: snapped cam chain, help :(
Did you remove all the valves to check they were straight or just the ones you could see damaged ?
Sometimes you can capture the camchain when installing meaning it has slack at the bottom that is not taken up by the tensioner , another possibility is you have been given the wrong camchain and it has too many links.

Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !

Yea i took out every valve. also the cam chain never realy felt too big and is still under tension. could it be caused by a couple of valve shim gaps being out of tolerence ?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: snapped cam chain, help :(
have you timed it properly .................timing marks all lined up correctly ?
If it was a tooth out it will start and run but sound like a box of nails

Well after 7 hours and lots of coffee i think iv sorted the nasty rattle out. iv gone over all the valve shims and corrected them (they where a mess). it sounds a lot better naw.
