dying out its butt

Post by razzcolio »

hello guys,

my engine dropped a valve the other day and i cant decide what to do with it.

is it worth replacing the damaged valves, inlet camshaft, oil gallery, piston, rockers, etc...

or is it cheaper to just fit a second hand engine?

Would probably be cheaper and definately easier to get 2nd hand motor, and use your broken motor for spares?

Only concern with fitting a second hand motor is that if you're keeping the bike as an investment hoping that it will be a future classic then if the engine and frame numbers don't match as original you can forget it. A restorer in future can sort a tatty original bike back to concours condition. If the original motor has gone there's nothing gonna bring that back. Depends what you want the bike for - to ride or as an investment. Then again, money it's going to cost to sort that motor will mean you'd never get the value back again no matter how much it appreciated, especially as you can't do the work yourself.

with a 2nd hand motor you might just be ending up buying more problems - you already know what your engine needs.

Until conrods go smashing through casings nothing is really that terminal although melting a head does make it pretty fubar too.

As Tirpitz says, what's the bike going to be doing ?

Price up the parts with the online fiche I've posted then see what used motors cost and factor in you might still need to service it too or even do a head gasket!
