Valve clearances

Post by carsounds_dan »

Hi all,
I've got a load of pictures of when I checked my clearances, if anyone knows if there is a site that will host for free, there is 6 pictures in total.
ALSO I have got one more clearance to do, and I can't get the bloody shim, so I was wondering what's better. I can either have the clearance 0.03mm too big or 0.02 too small but can't find the shim I need to find the middle ground. It's an inlet valve if that helps.
Cheers
dan

Valve clearances from the manual

0.12 - 0.17 (Inlet)
0.16 - 0.21 (Exhaust)

you just need to have it somewhere in that range. It doesn't have to be an exact value. Since the range is 0.05mm then I imagine shims are available in 0.05mm steps, since that ensures you will always be able to select one that puts the valve clearance within range.
In the garage:
Kawasaki ZXR400 L3 - shiny
Suzuki DR800 - bouncy
1978 Suzuki GS400 - PROJECT RETRO RACER!
Kawasaki GPz500S - for sale soon
Honda CG125 BR-J - in bits
