Piston coating?

Post by alrockliffe »

In the process of doing a top end rebuild, so thought I would tidy up the piston crowns whilst they are out. Having removed the carbon, there appears to be a grey coating on the top, and sides down to the oil ring. Is this discolouration or a coating? Is it ok to remove it, ie polish the pistons?
