oil cooler or no oil cooler help

Post by dickie210 »

hi i have a zxr400h1 1989 that i bought with a knackered engine i bought a engine out of a zx400 1989 same engine but with out an oil cooler i have fitting the engine and it runs fine the question is shall i swap the sump over off of the knackered engine so i can fit the oil cooler, is it a straight swap or will i need to change some parts inside the engine. is it worth doing this or shall i just leave it with no oil cooler as it was not a problem in the zx400 it came out of. iam not going to be racing the bike just road use has anyone on hear done this job before cheers for any help or your views :smt001

be worth trying to swap the sumps if they will go, just make sure you wont be blocking any oilways or pickups. not sure how different the zxr and zx engines are?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

it a zx4, not a zxr tho :smt002 ... id just swap the engine over as is, leave it with no oil cooler. Ive heard they are different internally, so i would'nt chance it for the costs of a sump gasket meself.
