regulator wire burnt bike wont start

regulator wire burnt bike wont start
hi have a k reg zxr 400 it wont start turns over have spark and fuel just get backfiring, just took reg rectifier off today and one off the yellow wires and the terminal on multiplug are burnt/melted all lights etc work fine wot would stop bike starting help please
