Oil light problem

Post by Lee »

Just recently i started up my replacement engine, fired up after a few goes of flattening the battery whilst waiting for the carbs to fill. Anyway it now runs fine apart from the oil light keeps coming on but when i rev it, the light goes out. I put in the recommended 3 litres but wonder if it maybe needs a top up as it sat with absolutly no oil in it?

Also the sight glass was dark with oil but after running it for a bit, the colour seems to have gone lighter? is this just condensation on the glass or something?

If it looks like white mist then yeah i thinks its a bit of condensation. Whats the oil level like in the glass? is it between the two markers? Did you change the filter also? Could be clogged with some crap maybe?

Aye its between the two markers. I put in a brand new filter from kawasaki, semi synthetic 10 SAE 40W oil and new gaskets.
I topped it up a bit more this morning, and when the bikes upright it doesn't come on but when i put it on its sidestand it gradually comes back on?

It comes on when i first put the key in before i fire it up but i think this is normal as it should go out once it builds pressure from the running engine.

To be fair mine is pretty much the same well when i had it it had mist on the inside of the glass that was due to the previous owner not using it regular so iv been told, so regular use will knock that on the head and as for the oil sometimes mine takes a day or two of none use to come back down, ill only wory if something goes bang. to be fair your bike sounds normal.

could be a poor oil pump though,an oil light that comes on at low rpm is
a)a seal fault
b)pump fault
c)pressure sensor fault
