regulator sick: lack of power?

Post by xantos »

Hi everybody.

It's a while since I havnt been posting on this useful site and Id like to communicate problem which maybe is common to some other folks around here.

I notoced that lights on my 91 ZXR L model try suddenly to become less bright at night, despite which revolutio I am running.
Noticing also that, despite the modifications made on bike in order to improve power delivery, acceleration is a bit lazy, such as the tacho run towards red line, I HAVE suspicion that the regulator is about to die.
Ive been told there are plenty that can be used in place ofr its original one.

Id like to share any opinion about it.

Sounds like the poor acceleration might be a slipping clutch especially if the rev needle races towards the red line for not much more speed.

best way to tell if its going is get a multi meter (used to check voltage) and check the voltage across the postive and negative on the battary, if its over 16v then your regulator is gone.

If its below what it should be check that your getting a good output from the altenator.
