Headlights have died.....

Post by Knockedover »

First post here and would like to say Hi before i dive in with my first post :smt001
Im just getting the ZXR freshened up for the summer after being laid up for the winter and the headlights have decided to play silly sods and not work :smt017 I start the bike regulary and check it over the laying up period and until 2 weeks ago they where fine!!! So far ive checked the fuse but thats about it. The symptoms are that the idiot light on the warning light panel isnt working, the speedo and temp clock lights aren't working (but the revcounter is??) and everything is dead i.e. pass switch not working or main dip switch....Does anybody know where i should start looking to sort it??
Many thanks
Vince

P.S. forgot to mention the bike is a '93 ZXR400SP :smt001

Welcome matey, tasty bike by the sounds of it!

Give the loom connectors a going over, check they havent corroded and are connected properly. iirc the main ones for the front end are behind the clocks, if not you may need to get the airbox off to check a larger one.

Check all the fuses not just the headlight fuse too. :smt001

first thing i'd do is check or replace the battery sounds like its a dud one, i had all these symptoms when my battery died.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Lol recently ive been noticing master and Rob advising people to swap their batteries, not that that wont fix it, but i have a sneaky suspicion that they work for a higher authority, possibly battery companies.... confuddled

Not possible, Redex wont let me work for anone else! :smt002

And as a matter of fact, over a cold winter batteries really do get some stick, and i suspect that batteries are starting to suffer from the effects now.
