Weird Neutral Cut out on stand!?

Post by xxx Blaze xxx »

Hey guys, was cruising to college this morning, got there and noticed the neural light bulb must gone when i got there, no biggy, any way i come to put the stand down and bike cuts out. I try and start it but wont even turn over, totally lifeless and dead as if i had forgot to turn the cut off switch back to on. Anyway i found that to start it i need to pull clutch in. One bike started i can then leave it to idle in neutral HOWEVER the minute i place bike on it stand it cuts out. For some reason puttin it on its stand is killin the engine, just the same as when you try to ride away in frist with stand down. Wondering if any you guys have had same problem, and where I need to look cause i'm never flush for cash :( cheers all

How are you, I would say that your neutral light is not dead. The conection to the sensor is faulty or possibly the sensor itself is faulty. There is a diode logic circuit in the fuse box wich only allows the engine to start under certain logic conditions. one of those conditions is that the engine will only start when the stand is down if it is in neutral ( ie neutral detent switch is on) or if you have the clutch pulled in. As you apperar to have a fault in that area it makes sense as to why it will not start. check the neeutral switch......cheers

Hey m8 thanks for the bloody quick response lol. Right ok I'm a total amateur but will nip the seat off and have a look at the fuse box. Totally daft question but will it be divided up and I can just look for the neutral switch and then replace it? many thanks

The netural switch is in behind the front sprocket cover.................

Sounds to me like the cable has come off the netrual switch.........therefore the ignition/starter curcuit thinks the bike is in gear...................no message getting through

hi, more than likely your neutral wire has pulled off, remove the front sprocket cover and you'll see the wire hanging off, just push it back on.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

As they said its the green wire behind the sprocket cover, the neutral switch is just a small brass bsp fitting in the engine case next to the sprocket output shaft. Its usually filthy dirty and as I beleive you put salt on your raods over there it could also be part of the problem. So just make sure it has a good connection. cheers
