Hi Beam Advice?

Post by markzxr400l3 »

Hi All,

Bike is now running, stopping, turning and generally behaving itself following a ground up rebuild.

LAST (I hope) issue is the main beam doesnt work. Its an import (km clocks)

I've had a look a the diagrams manuals and it looks like the main beam switch (and relay) is for uk bikes only. So I'm suspecting I have an import loom but uk switchgear (i.e. i have a switch and blue light for main beam but no relay or cabling for it).

Is this the case or have I missed something. When I hit the passing (non latching) button nothing happens and when I flick the switch to main beam the headlights go out, i.e. back to position bulb only.

I probably need a new loom anyway, will fitting a replacment uk loom solve this or can mine be modded to have a main beam? Do you need a main beam for MOT?

As always, all help/information appreciated.

Cheers

as far as i know the imports are wired for lights permanently on but would have thought they would still have a headlight relay for main beam, if it has then i'd definitely say the relay has gone.

and yes you need a main beam for the MOT.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Mine is an import and has lights always on with a switched high beam.
Sorry to state the obvious but have you checked the bulb... it's possible to blow the high beam without blowing low beam even though they're in the same bulb.

Cheers guys,

I have checked the bulb(s) but hey, the obvious is the right place to start, no need to be sorry.

I'll get the relay changed before I do anything else. Still need an new loom eventually anyway but may save me a few bob for now.

Thanks again.
