when you say revving past 8l, you're not just revving it on the driveway are you? As mine only reads to ten before it hits the limiter when on the drive, but out on the road all the way to the redline. Tacho's are never exact and even less so when the bike isn't under load.

Yes it standing. Im aware that it wont be the same as on the road but the bike always revved up into the red when standing. Now you have to ease the throttle up to even get it to 8,000. If you whip it open it will cough, backfire and then stall....

have you checked the inlet rubbers? i know normally they only make the revs hang but if there is a large split or something somewhere they could make it do this, especially seeing as its sat for so long and then you have had the carbs off etc, they have prob gone brittle and split, worth a look

like new, no cracks or splits. Soft flexible rubber... Was worth a try tho thanks..

bloody hell aint got a clue now mate lol, recheck the float heights and give at a good thrash with some redex is all i can think now lol

did you take all the jets out and blow them through with compressed air or did you just spray carb cleaner down the holes?
