have you had each plug out 1 by 1 and checked they are all sparking?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

to test you coils/ ht leads....
take a plug out, whack it in the nd of the ht lead, earth the end on some bare metal eg frame or engine, and turn the engine, you will see a spark from the end.
do this for every ht lead on every coil.
you'll know if they are working.
if your plugs are black and dry on the end, you running or tryng to fire mega rich, get some sand paper or a wire brush and clean the ends up, else sparking will be very very hard.
have you tried bump starting it. if it fires, you'll know if your timing is right!!!!!
even with bad timing, the engine should fire of form but run like crap!
for an engine to run you need fuel, air, timing of some form and a spark. then it will fire up.
my advice, whip your carbs off and set them to the manual.
I am guessing yours is a H you have 2 re wires, like me!
allthe wiring diagrams are on the manual pages, check these out.
pop into a car/ bike shop and buy a length of ht lead. mine was £2 for 4 foot.
check the sparks there, and clean/ replace your plugs ( test every plug as well, cause they could be fooked)
then, you should be working!
