Was finding all that info regarding cdi units very interesting, I'm sure everyone would like to know the outcome of your discussion....
Any chance of putting it on an info thread for us.....?

Sorry still havent even replied to PM as have been busy.

I will add some data to the CDI section Baz has put on the know your stuff section.....

Is that the most appropriate area?

I think there is a CDI sticky there. That way Zimm and others can correct me on the bits that I may have wrong.

By the way If anyone has any CDI's they want tested for advance map etc. I would be glad to add some data.

Also Just a random plug here (LOL)....I can digitaly modify the SP CDI now to the F3 Kit specs ( 16,200rpm limit ). Just havent arived at a price for the service yet. would also remove the 11,500rpm speed limiter circuit, stand cutout and Ignition anti theft circuit. Just need to find a good cheap postage to and from the UK ( Im In australia).

cheers

as you are the only person i know who has actually bench tested any of the cdi's, i dont think there'll be much "correcting" being done by the rest of us.. a little clarifying maybe, but that'd be about it lol.

can you make a stock H or L cdi into an F3 cdi though ? there'd be more of a market for that as SP hardware is hard to come by.

if you can, i've got a pile of H, L and uk spec L cdi's to be going on with :)

and half a dozen programmable units in the post :excited :excited

which all need mapping

Lol...you are going to laugh zimm...But I don't actually have any stock ZXR gear left. I sold it all to the racers out here years ago when SP gear was illegal. But if you send me a couple out i will do all I can to investigate the possibility of modifications. I can deffinately internally remove the 11,500rpm speed limiter, stand cut out and ignition kill, just saves on messy unreliable wiring on your harness to remove the functions at a circuit level. If you pay for postage I would do that for free just so as I can get some standard ones on the test bench to look at and investigate advance, rpm limit extension etc. However those units do not have the TPS and fuel solenoid functions implemented as far as I know so you would only be looking at the "possibility" of 2d map changes and rpm limit increase.

You could probably pickup a standard SP box pretty easy. Its those F3 kit spec boxes that are impossible to get ( accept for the lucky bloke in japan on the other thread he has 2). I am also working on a mod for the SP box that may make the RPM adjustable on the fly, could be handy for racing.

Just a thought... would you be willing to test other cdi units...?
I'm sure there are others on the forum with other projects on the go, I am working on a KR1 and a ZXR750 both for track use and would like to do away with all unnecessary wiring and have the cdi modified to suit.
I for one am finding it hard to find anybody able to do the work locally..
Just an idea...!

How are you going. Yeah I have no problem looking at other units. I can not guarantee anything but would only charge for actual results. I have built race harnessing for ZXR750 before and as such am pretty sure the standard CDI is DENSO and the SP and F3 are actually similar to the zxr400 SP mitsubishi unit. The mitsubishi unit I would recomend is best for the zxr750 if you can get one.

Anyone who has any modification requests can PM me.

allthough due to the current state of the world economy, I will only take turnips as payment......LOL.

i'll dig out some spares and ship em over mate.

none of the lockout stuff is needed on my race loom.. but i cant remember how i did that :smt017

although i did need the ignition switch resistor spliced into a short loop between the two cdi plugs.

SP stuff is rare enough in the uk that ive not seen any in the years ive been playing with zxr's .. ever. Most racers just get em chipped or go aftermarket .. which also saves the hassle of changing the loom and rotor ..
