Hi all, just got a sweet ZXR400 L9 at the weekend and totally loving it. Problem is the damn thing doesnt start, well it does if you bump start it. Basically I got the ZXR and took it home in a back of a van cos just passed test 2 weeks ago and would have been a long drive back so thought it would be best to get used to it near where I live and know the roads but when I got it back to my house the damn thing would'nt start, didn'y even make any noise like it was trying to start when pusing the switch. Eventually did get it to start, went out for 30 mins got back and tried to start it agian and was just making a buzzing noise and was'nt starting.
So today my dad had a look at it cos he knows alot about car mechanics, checked the battery and thats fine, took out the junction box, checked all connection etc and seemed fine. Then my mates came round i got geared up and we bumped started it, was going fine. Took it to my mates house cos his dad is a car mechanic and he basically did the same as my dad but he got a wire and connected it to the battery and then directly to one of the junction box parts and the bike started totally fine, so he thinks it coould be the junction box thats the problem but my Dad isnt to sure. Any idea's on where I could get a junction box or what are your thoughts on the problem.
Really appreciate any replies and as you can prob tell I dont know anything about car or bike mechanics.

Re: Starting problems
Whack a spanner accross the two points of the starter solenoid.
Does it turn over or still just click?
PS: Be careful, don't do it for more than a few seconds etc.

Re: Starting problems
Right now does nothing, only if you get it going and then turn it off. If you do that when you try start it just makes a buzzing noise but if you leave it for 5-10 mins does F all when you try it. Tryed hitting the started already and unfortuneatly didnt do anything.

Re: Starting problems
Hi,
Check you are getting 12 volts to the Black and Red wire on the junction box First one on top row. Mine did exactly the same and it was a bad connection from the starter button.
If you havn't got battery voltageat this point strip and clean R/H switch starter button.
Hope this helps

Re: Starting problems
could be corroded connections somewhere, check the earth strap from the battery.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: Starting problems
Thanks for all the suggestions. My mate knows a time served bike mechanic so I'm gonna get him to have a look at it tomorrow, so hopefully it might be ready for the weekend and I can got out for a goof ride instead of a wee 10-20 min run like last time and worrying if I stall it or it cuts out how the f**k i'm gonna get it started again.
