'Hunting' at idle?

Post by Wabby »

Hi guys,

Just noticed that the ZXR hunts a little bit at idle. Is this normal?

Seems to die down as she gets warm, but is still there?

Cheers for any help guys.

'hunting', is that when the revs rise slightly then die down?

Id go for a carb balance first, then go from there.

Yeah - Only VERY slightly.

Sounds a bit 'whirry' aswell, but not sure if thats normal.

Will post an audio clip of it to see if any1 can pinpoint what it could be?

Cheers

could be an air leak on the inlet rubbers, get it ticking over and spray some carb cleaner around the inlet area see what happens.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

aye, that's normally been from an air leak around the manifold inlet rubbers. if it's leaking badly you'll start to get some nice backfires on the overrun and when you hold it at a constant throttle in certain rev range points. riding my 750 through town atm is fun, cruising along at 5.5K revs sounds like someone letting off a few rounds from a handgun.

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Getting some nice backfire now. Sounds like an M16! lol

Easy to check / change / repair?
