Sounds like the starter relay may have packed up. Short the terminals of the starter motor and it 'should' spin up and start. If it does then take a look at the relay. Theres a test in the manual that youll need a multimeter. I think there may be a fuse for it too, so might be worth checking.

best way to check that will be to pull the clutch in and see if it starts then.

actually, if its in neutral (the light comes on he says) that shouldnt have any probs starting even if the stand switch is messing about, should it?

Re: engine wont start -please help
just had a try with the stand switch ,nothing the switch operates as normal is well greased and the return spring is strong ,so that's out
that was the first one in my mind i feared of (starter relay) i will look into it the evening , i hope is the fuse and i will check the switch gear as well ,you never knowRedexRobB wrote:Sounds like the starter relay may have packed up. Re: engine wont start -please help
Either battery is knackered (very cold weather) or the starter relay/ solenoid/ fuse is gone.
Try with jump leads from a car and if that doesnt work then the starter circuit needs checking

take the fusebox apart and break the casing on the relay, then connect it up and see if it clicks when you press the starter, it may need the tab bending a bit.
