Idleing too high?

Post by xxx Blaze xxx »

Hey guys,

would be great if you hot any ideas

long story short, fuel been pouring out the carbs out breather, after third time of cleaning them out its stopped doing it. Anyway after having a devil of a job trying to start it 3 weeks later, finally got it going. Except its simply ideling too high. The idle adjuster is at its lowest setting and cannot be dropped any further. Ive got the tank off now and the accelerator cable aint snagged anywhere. The interesting thing is that when I started the bike it was on a slight gradient, ideling at about 3 1/2, i back it down the slope onto level ground and idel returns to about 1,000. 3 seconds later straight back up to revvin its bullocks off. Kinda running out of ideas and dads running out of patience with the thing. Someone suggested the straps round the inlets on the carbs might have perished (excuse my lack of knowledge on the correct terminology lol), but seems ok to me, carbs seated in fine and with a tug won't come out so.

Many thanks

it could be your mixture screws and wrong causing it to idle too high, do you no what they are set at?the carb rubbers are also common for leaking even though they dont lookl perished (ive got a set on order for mine because the revs hang on from time to time) a good way to test them is with the bike running spray the carb rubbers with some carb cleaner or something similar and if the revs pick up or change atall it means they are leaking so check they are all secure etc if not you may need some new ones like me.just a few ideas for you.also have you balanced the carbs recently that might also help, and just another silly one make sure the choke isnt stuck on not just the cable but the plate on the carbs.hope this helps.let us know how you get on.

Hey m8 thanks for the reply. Sorry what are the mixture screws and how can i change them.
Ah ok i might have to to order some new ones them dam. How tight should i be tightening
these carb rubbers. I mean i cant pull the carbs off like? Haven t balanced the carbs just thoroughly cleaned out
And sorry what u mean check the plate on the choke? Its seated in the place it should be and then its slack the other side
where like the little toggle fits in so would that mean the choke is def off? Bit more information for ya - Basically once
I start the bike, it idles now OK at about 1,800. Minute I use the throttle the idle suddenly increases to almost 3,000 and
wont drop once releasing the throttle. I found leaning the bike over on its side and the revs almost die and then suddenly it cuts.
Depending upon the angle I am holding the bike either causes it to cut out or rev its bullocks off. I tried to ride it up the lane but
just so bumpy and often cuts out.

Cheers

just realised you have posted another thread as well that i have replied to lol.the mixture screws are on the bottom of the bowls of the carbs.there are 4 of them 1 on each of the carbs.the standard setting is 2 and 1/2 turns out from the bottom.i remember seeing a picture on a manual somewhere about how tight to tighten the carbs i think there should be a 3-5mm gap on the clip from the screw to the stop i think but dnt hold me to that i do mine up pretty much the whole way.the choke cable pulls a plate thats heald on by 3 screws on the carbs just make sure its not covered in crap and free you should be able to see it move if you move the cable with the tank off that is.i think 1,800 is abit high for idle mine is just under 1k i dont no what it should actually be set to im sure someone on here knows the correct spec. im not so sure on the leaning it over and it cuts out as i said on your other post maybe check the float heights and that.

It is meant to idle at 1,150 ~ 1,250 rpm for the L models
