Do you do your own servicing?
Just wondering how many people actually do their own servicing on here??
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

I selected third one down, but 'taking it to the garage' for me is taking it to my dads work I'm fortunate enough to have 2 mecahnics in the family.

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
depends on the bike really, and how much time I have and how lazy I'm feeling.
The runner - done everything on, including having the engine out and in pieces..... but it is a 2 stroke!
The ZXR - again, done everything on it to date
Gixer - didnt have time on my side, and the bike shop is 2 mins drive from where I work - so it went in there for valve clearance check..... other than that, I do everything myself.
So I selected 3rd one down, if I had the time - it would be the bottom one! But I dont have enough hours in the day to do what I want to as it is!

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
Take it to a garage if i really have to , no time, no tools ect...
Now with access to the shop workshop that is going to be extremely rare
I also don't do my own oil change cause i buy 45 litres bulk from the shop i bought the ZRX from and it works out at half the price of me doing it so that's a no brainer (including oil filter too)
Will put the ZXR on the same contract.

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
Only thing I go to a garage for is to have tyres fitted and MOT's.
You pay someone else up to £60 an hour to do a job as quick as possible but puts no real care into it.
And who says they really know more than you do.

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
on the ZXR i done all the work that needed to be done by myself with help from here, mainly because its a nice simple piece of mechanics. but for me CBR im screwed and a little scared to do things myself. i mean obviously things like the brake fluid oil etc yea ill do that no probs but when its engine related i think it will go the garage.. althoe it may be ok while i own it as it is bullet proof after all
Remember speed kills, so does smoking, drinking, drugs, fast food and many more good things

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
I've clicked the 'never take it to a garage' option, but that's not entirely true.
I take it in for tyre changes and as yet haven't done forks but would be willing to have a go time and tools allowing. And occasionally I'll find an electrical problem stumps me - but I'll put in a hell fo a lot of hours myself trying to sort it.

Re: Do you do your own servicing?
Good point! I quite like working on my bike once I've got started - but if I did have the cash I'd have a personal mechanic/bike washer and wouldn't miss it at all!rene wrote:i've never taken a bike to a garage apart from to get it MOT'd but i selected the 3rd because i would i could afford it lol

Mostly myself. Id do most things but when it comes to the motor ive always left it to someone who knows better than me.
