Hello

Post by octimark »

Hi Everyone,

I think I may have been registered on here and the owners club a good few years ago. I'm sorry if ive already met some of you before but don't remember biggrin

I don't remember any of my log in details and changed email address etc etc so it was easier to register as a new user.

I have a 1995 (N Reg) ZXR 400 SP Grey Import.

Currently done about 17,000 kilometres (approx. 10-11,000 miles)

Its been stood in the shed for about 3 years and requires some much needed TLC.

Due to a lot of reasons (moving house, 2 x kids, work etc) I just haven't got round to getting it back on the road but ive got the bug again and my mission started this weekend.

I managed to "dig" the bike out from under all the crap and have a look round it. At first it was worse than I thought it would be. I had left it with a full tank of petrol.

However the brakes seem to be free and not ceased, so I put the battery on charge (I had disconnected it) but after a few hours charging it was clear it was dead. Found another spare battery but the same thing. I went to a couple of local bike shops but all the spares dpt were closed so my only chance of getting a battery was Halfords. £46 and I was on my way home with a new Bosch YTX9-BS battery.

I wasn't expecting anything but I had to try it, I just couldn't wait..............about a lifetime later (it was only a min max) and just as the battery was starting to fade it spluttered in to life :excited

A quick few hundred yard ride confirmed the front brakes were working the back brake was weak but it did work. All the lights worked, horn, tyres were ok, clutch and gearbox was all working. Considering it had been stood for about 3 years I was well chuffed.

I'm taking it for an MOT today so I can find out exactly what it needs. I will also be having a service and if needed the carbs stripping down.

First major MOT issue is the front indicators rubbers have perished and I need some new ones. Or as a quick fix some spacers and some cheap aftermarket indicators.

I have quite a lot to do to get the bike back to its former glory but its now one of my priorities. Hence re-registering on here as I have lots of questions since being out of the biking world for so long.

Looking forward to chatting and meeting you guys.

Cheers
Mark

Cheers

Sorted the indicators out for now with some universal mounts and universal indicators

Some sad news just in.

I dropped off my bike at the MOT testing centre this morning for them to give it a look over, drain the fuel tank and MOT the bike. They just told me someone has knocked it over :ffs

Another biker, whos left his details but the damage seems bad enough to cuase me concerns.

To be fair I had my WIP fairings on which I had some cracks repaired and were sanded down ready for paint so I can live with some minor damage to them but the nose fairing and screen has been so badly damaged I doubt its going to be repairable.

It was an original complete with factory sticker on the inside too.

I'm gutted :smt010

Any suggestion on where to source a new nose fairing would be appreciated :smt003

Attached is a picture of my bike but with a pillion seat and subframe bolted on instead of the single seat unit

You can get a new one from kawasaki of course...costly but since your not paying.

Bad luck though. At least they were decent enough to leave details.

How would I go about that?

Do I need to go through a repair centre to order one from Kawasaki?

Edited to add:
Phoned Cradley Kawasaki (01384 633455)
They are £599 and they need to be ordered direct from Japan. However they are showing 0 stock which means they may no longer be available shocking

Havent phone the guy yet so I don't know if his details are correct or even if hes going to accept liability. Hopefully he will be decent about it all.

I have a dint in my petrol tank too :smt010
