Kent/ London newbie

Post by humanoid1989 »

Only just got my 1989 H model from ebay. Needs a little work, but at 16000 miles was allright for £800.
Needed a new battery, and will need a good clean out. Bloke delivered it to me with no petrol and didnt tell me- so i tried starting it (oblivious to the empty tank) :ffs Now its being a bugger to get started.
Done the old easy start and clean fuel trick and it kicked into life- after cleaning up the sparks.

Now on to the cosmetics!

Funny you should mention the head gasket :pmsl
Brother in law is on it as soon as there is space in his garage. Fortunately my family are a load of mechanics and the H will be getting a clean bill of health soon :smt003

Im so glad i got it, despite the silly little problems- i've always wanted one ever since i saw one pull along side my dads Austin Maestro in oooooh 1994? We were sat in traffic at the Dartford Tunnel (Ha) and i was 18. Strangely i didnt take my bike test until 2002.
Of course im now wondering why it took me so long!!!

Went on its first ride today- belting little bike!
There were a couple of problems (see elsewhere on this site) but loved riding it- feels bigger than its 400cc capacity i reckon!

One thing though- anyone got a baffle for an ART exhaust? Yes i know, everyone loves a loud exhaust- but mines really loud and everyone was looking at me in disgust!!!
Id like to quieten it a bit for road use without strangling the engine. And i dont want to get pulled by the rozzers for noise pollution either! oldman

Here's me doing a soggy Brands Hatch trackday last week- what a stunning bike! Even though it was wet and the bike still has mis matched skank tyres (will replace em when i have cash!) it was absolutely planted. It was my first trackday, but i came away well happy. And i wasnt the slowest out there either.
I had the rear squirming a bit at times but it felt controlled.

Now to get the spanners out and sort out the technical gremlins- ZXR World will be a great help! I already have some techy printouts to help......
