looks like a regular H model ignition box to me....................I'm assuming that all SPs have the Mitsibushi ignition boxes ? ? that my L model SP had.

Don't think I've seen an 'N' cdi before. But like cargo id assume the j models also have the mitsubishi box like the L's

Cheers Gav, it's a bit of a carpet queen at the mo, spends most of time being cleaned as it has the usual starting problems after being laid up (my fault), and I'm a bit of a longshanks at 6ft 2, yeah the zxr was made for me lol!gavinfdavies wrote:how much did you pay for it? it looks in lovely condition! mine hasn't looked so clean since i bought it! but then again i do ride it all the time in all weathers and i'm not cleaning it after each 30 miles commute, cos the next night it'll look just as bad.so long as you're not over 6ft you'll find this a great comfy little pocket rocket, plus you'll have that extra pride in owning a SPecial little bike (lucky git!) maybe i'll see you out and about?
I had a set price in mind and didn't really look at what the going rate was...I paid £1,500

Oh yes I can see the N, is that significant? Still learning these things.RedexRobB wrote:Don't think I've seen an 'N' cdi before. But like cargo id assume the j models also have the mitsubishi box like the L's
I don't mean to keep this thread running, but from what I gather it's a J2 1990 SP but not necessarily with the correct era parts, will get me mate Dave to help us check out the carbs/cams at some point.
Thanks all

Re: Kermit saying hello, SP or not?
my official opinion is BARGAIN. I paid £1400 for an l5 (P reg) with sommit like 30.5k on clock, but mine was a uk model. Came with braided lines, sintered pads, renthals, new chain, db screen, and condition was i'd say 8/10. I got it off a mate, so i knew it was a reliable 8/10, not a 2/10 posing as a 10/10, if you get my drift. I think yours was better value, but i paid over as i was in a hurry (my bike was out of mot in 2 days time, as wasn't passing without a lot of cheap but time consuming work.
Yours looks well looked after and in good nick, but i hope you've still got your fcr's in there, one of the best bits on an sp. One check to see if it's been raced, (apart from looking for little lock wire holes in the sump plug etc) is look for a worn patch on the gear shift rod, just where it leaves the gear foot pedal. If you convert it to race pattern shift, this bit just grazes the pedal when you press down, and leaves a mark. mine has it, only noticed it when i changed mine to race pattern for the road (i prefer it).
one bonus - keep it in good nick, and in 5 years you could probably sell it for the same!

I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

oh, and if you're sick of starting problems, i'll swap. mine could do with a clean...

Hey K,
Fine looking J2 you have
CDI is correct as the Js don't use the M box and pulsar rotor associated with it.
What I see wrong with it is:
Seat unit Black number board should have a Pearlescent White border line around it.
No adjuster on remote reservouir.
No K-BATL decal on side fairing cowl.
http://www.goobike.com/bike/stock_8200021B30081116003/
So it may have had the Green or some areas resprayed. The lower SP sport production decals on the bellypan should also be reflective - shine a torch on them at night, very hard to have these replicated !
It should have FCR's on it with no access to the main jets (It looks like they have heaters on them instead) The M bikes FCRs came with a removeable bowl for easy MJ exchange. When you come to do your shims/valve adjustment you'll find the cam's wheels are slotted.
At the end of the day it really doesn't matter, you've got a great bike with factory trick bits already on it , enjoy it
I have managed to change my H2 into a SP using J1 & J2 parts and I have a J2 engine waiting to be overhauled and a M engine waiting to be big bored
Buy the cheapest plugs you can find (within range) and change them regular.
Welome BTW,
MM!

Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !
