building a track bike

hi all, new to this site but found it through who i think is the owner of this site via zx10r.co.uk
just sold the enemies 400 as i bought her a 2007 zx6 but i have a frame and engine from the l series zxr400.
i intend to build a pure track/race bike from it but have VERY limited spanner twirling experience. the most i have done is put a 2008 gsxr front end onto my tls track bike.
i want to powder coat frame, big bore the motor, super finish the internals, have a go at diy gas flowing but like i said i'm very green so any hints, tips or contacts in the Reading area would be greatly recieved. and please feel free to talk to me like an idiot.
my first issue is gonna be how to prep the frame for powder coating. how far do i go, do i mask up the holes? do i remove bearings before or after?

welcome Paul, nice one for popping over get all bearings out to be on the safe side and use old bolts to fill up any threaded holes, a lot depends on the powdercoaters, we have redditch shotblasting here that do a fabulous job and mask up any bearings and orifices properly, you can go elsewhere locally and pay half the price but you'll do twice as much work when its done.A bit far from you i know but you could courier, depends how much you wanna spend at the end of the day.

frame looks great mate, i think i'm gonna use them myself on your recommendation. distance doesn't really bother me.

got my eye on a 2007 zx6r swing arm, any idea how much trouble i'll have fitting it? i want something a bit more special looking than box section.

is a bit quiet on here lately, maybe i should delete half the forum and let the newbies revive it lol, all been said before i guess, still over 700,000 hits this month so i guess more are reading than writing?

re the swinger i presume as long as you can make it fit and the chain aligns and clears the back wheel the rest is minor details? tbh not many people do swinger replacements as the stock one is good enough.

thing is the L model hasn't changed since the L1 imports manufactured in 1989 Kawasaki were way ahead of the times when they developed the L model methinks.

anyways back to your zx6r swinger............

it is a track bike but, as with my tls race bike will still be road legal as the enemy will be using it also.

its also just something to keep me busy

Swing arm changes, if the new one fits you will have to remember the swing arm spindle will probably be a different size so the bearings will havecto be changed. Also you will have to line up your rear cog with the front one. For this you will have to make the right sized spacers as your old ones wont fit correctly

I am hoping to go along GPz900r swinger for something different - eccentric cams for starters

Got an A12 out on North veranda but thats totally blocked the now But at some point I will get back out there and hook it into my frame, ahhhhh which is an H so no help to you

However I had already tried a RG400 swinger - that might be an L possible If you can measure the frame internal spacing I can let you know as its on the accessable South veranda.

The Xanthius gull arm with eccentric adjusters is another possible but will require machining.

Anyhoo - you've not done much since November then ?
