New lad to the forum ;)

Post by scottywottydoodes »

Hi, im new to this site as a member but not as a browser ;)

19/M, from derbyshire, but due to being in the army im training down at Bordon hampshire, SEME.

I own a 1996 ZXR 400 in green, white and purple, soon to change colours ;)

I got hit off my bike not long ago on the motorway and its made me want to sort my bike out, cosmetic wise as even before the crash it was rather beat up from previous owners.

Im currently waiting on a set of fairings in green to arrive and see the quality of them,
ive brought new hel lines,
getting the wheels painted,
ive got new tyres,
scottoiler (i do 300 miles a weekend and it seemed like a good buy ? haha)
im hopeing to get a manaul from my local delear as i want to get strip the bike and give it a real good going over, clean and in some cases paint.
New brake pads,
using pro bolt ive purchased a full set of fairing bolts, screen bolts, and more all in annodised black.

Loads more that i wanna do and am currently doing ;)

The only manual available for the ZXR is the genuine Kawasaki one..............................very expensive from a dealer and perhaps no longer available.

But why buy it when it available free to download from this very website

Oh and welcome to ZXRworld

i cant bring a computer to my garage for one ;) the introduction says its for all models except 1996,1997,1998 and its a supplement, wouldnt a normal manual guide you through certain procedures as my previous bike manual did.

ill get pics up when i go home, as the computer i use here at work doesnt let me upload them.

what do you mean by normal manual ?

The ONLY manual for ZXR400 is the genuine Kawasaki one.

There is practicly no difference between L1and L9 for 99% of maintainance tasks. Most of what is in the H manual applies equally to the L

The genuine manual is very good. TBH I don't rate Haynes manuals etc myself, I'd much rather have the genuine thing. With even a basic grasp of mechanics you can work with the genuine manual fine, if you need anything more basic you probably shouldn't be working on the bike. And anyway, if you're not sure about anything just post up on here, plenty of people here to help who will have already done the same job.

You want to download the full manual and the supplement for the L. But you will only need to glance at the supplement just to check on any changes. As Cargo says, the H is almost the same when it comes to the nuts and bolts and the supplement really only consists of new exploded diagrams to show the slight differences. All the procedures, which are explained fully in the main manual, still apply.

You can probably get 2nd hand copies of both on Ebay if you really want the hard copy. Might be cheaper than printing it all off a download. I have them, they are worth every penny (but then I did buy them before this site existed oldman )
