Gavin, Im glad you can see my point of view, Its not an FU attitude, the law in my opinion is stupid. Because someone is one year older than me it means they are less of a risk on the road and can jump straight on to a zzr1400 for example and im stuck on a 125 because of my age, not my experience or through doing a different test. For the record ive had a cbt for the last 3.5years until i passed my proper test.

The A and A1 course and tests are EXACTLY the same. :smt015

ANYHOO, Ive left the restriction kit in for the time being as i frankly cant be hooped stripping it out.

There are a lot of stupid laws, but regardless of what people think about them they have to be obeyed for the most part.

Couple of points from a really not getting involved too much stand-point.

1. Experience and age are quite similar but you'd be amazed at how much people changed in a couple of years.

2. There are no doubt some better, more level headed riders at 20 years old than at 30, but the law is what it is, and while some things may not seem fair thats just the way they are, choosing not obeying them becuase you think its stupid will come off worse for you if something bad were to happen.

3. If you were involved in a major RTA, even if it isn't your fault, the fact you have no restrictors in the bike, which will be picked up by the investigators will harm your defence. As it is your bike it is your responsibility to ensure that it is in the restricted form, so you risk points for no insurance etc etc. So when the time comes that you can ride an unrestricted bike if something like that did happen you'd already be facing a larger insurance premium than needed.

Plenty of people do bin the restrictors and a lot of these people dont' have any reprocussions from it, but for 12 months or more that you'll need them (I gather your around 20?) especially with all the other idiots on the road in their 4 wheeled boxes you have to really think is it worth getting boned over should something happen.

It does suck being stuck to 33bhp, but if you master the zxr at 33, just wait until you get to unleash it all!

The time will fly by.

I think we all do stupid things from time to time, some of us more than others, but with something like this I wouldn't just becuase my luck would have me t-boned by an old biddy who claimed it was my fault, only to be shafted by the long dick of the law for having no restrictors in the bike! Showing that i'm somewhat responsible goes a long way!

Do what you want though, if you do remove them be extra wary about other riders and cars and remember that you wont have insurance cover should something happen (which would ruin any ride for me as id be too paranoid!)

Other than that the ZXR is a great bike (restricted or not) and theres plenty of people on here who will be able to help you with any problems you get!

oi, MM, there's nowt wrong pushing an 80's designed bike past the ton...

my main ride at the mo is a 97 GPZ 500, but it's an 80s design, and even has a gpz600r 16" front wheel (like the gpz900r too) and cross plies too, and I must say, handles beautifully, and stops well.

might be something to do with the two enormous calipers (the big twin pistons) and disc off a gpx750, full length braided lines onto a gpz100rx m/c, forks dropped by 1", lowered clip ons (1" below top yoke, though they need to drop a tad more to match the seat/peg/bar triangle of a zxr), and pirrelli sport demons (120/80/16 front, 130/70/17 rear).

The steering is very fast, much more so than the zxr, and it's nearly as stable at lean (I can nearly pick flowers on left handers...). The brakes are good (require a good pull due to the amount of piston being moved), more than i've needed so far, and the tyres are brilliant.

but I must confess it was a bit toad when i started on it!
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

I'm new on the forum and have just recently made a thread regarding the restrictors - viewtopic.php?f=164&t=14995

My few questions are:

The new laws have made me (age 21) to be restricted to 47bhp, which you can do on a ZXR400 as these are not over 92bhp stock (you are not allowed more than that so super sports 600's are now out of the question!) but is it worth me not keeping it restricted for the sake of 20bhp roughly?

You can get the restrictors http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZXR- ... 4ac653f39e for £40 with the certificate and I'm under the impression that insurances don't even ask for "proof" that it has been restricted and you can actually do it yourself from home?

If you are riding it 'full powered' but claiming to be 47bhp I'm aware its breaking the law but can police check this by the side of the road? Unless you have an accident what are the chances, before when it was 33bhp lots of people had R6, GSXR600, ZX6R, CBR600RR and claimed they were restricted but riding them on 100bhp+ and many never got stopped. I even remember reading a forum where someone had a R1 allegedly restricted of course it would not have been though.

What is a ZXR400 like to ride though? I want to use it to get to work and back and on the weekends but I've read that these are like 2 strokes and you have to rev them a lot to go anywhere and they are terrible to give pillions, anyone help me? Can one ride comfortable with a pillion and still be nippy?

I am thinking about just keeping the restrictors in because I want to be legal but then again I want to have a small numberplate and a nice racing exhaust, is that also asking for trouble?

Insurance is cheap too... about 900 quid a year not too bad! That's just a quick mess around online, will be able to get it down when I phone around a bit!
