A big hello and my ZXR 250
Hey guys,
My name is Richard, i'm 23 and I live in London. Recently bought a ZXR 250. I know this is a 400 forum but hopefully there are some similarities and I can get a few tips.
Anyone own or owned a 250 here?
Cheers

Re: A big hello and my ZXR 250
It is indeed. This is the 'Real' Ninja 250, not a parallel twin commuter with fancy bodywork
Red line starting at 19,000 RPM, by the way. I still haven't ridden it, only had it started for a few seconds. It's currently in my sitting room downstairs lol. Will need a few things done, like fork seals (I was hoping for a bit of advice on that), indicator relay and lights. Apart from that, she looks good.

Yes, it is - it was meant only for the Japanesse market. I couldn't even guess how many there are in the UK (not many)
Always wanted a 250 inline 4 - love the sound really

the bracket goes through the spindle, although you would need to mod the swing arm for the slidey bit (technical term). Just a thought

Yup, will definately keep you boys updated - need to do a lot to ger her 'right'. Few electrical issues, fork seals, throttle sticking, need mud/chain guard and also want an exhaust. Hopefully will post a vid once I take her out but that won't be for a few months yet.

Hi Rich,
Unfortunately the bike shares the same name and look as the 400 but that's about it , headlights and taillights are the same though. Clocks and forks look the same but do differ.
The ZXR400 has a road brother called the Xanthius , the 250's is the Balius - they share the same engine, being naked the casings are different looking but internals are the same. The original A is the one to have with the high reving motor, later models started to be restricted with a lesser red line.
ZXR250 Engine: Balius Engine: I think ZXR400H forks with tripples drop in with out much fuss , the 250 forks are used as a USD conversion on the ZRX400 , less common is using the 400 H forks but I done that on my bike no problems so they should share same bearings.
I've actually got a BEET Aero shark fin front fender here (Uber rare) for the 250 , about to send it back as it was sold to me as one for the 400. Uprating the front end to a 400 will give you a 120 profile tyre.
You might be able to fit a H swinger as well ( axle should be correct) but you would want the complete back end and get a 160 profile tyre on the back
Balius zorsts should swap over like the xanthius does for the 400 but there may be fouling problems with the cowl(s) - RPM still make new systems for the 250 but there are plenty makers for the Balius , Nojima make a nice Ti/carbon system that sounds pretty darn good

If you have problems sourcing parts just give me a shout plenty used stuff about and some new parts still available too.
ATB,
MM!

Re: A big hello and my ZXR 250
Hey guys,
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the links Mori Man!
A bit of an update on the ZXR 250:
Throttle sorted, indicators didn't work because the battery was low so now work fine, brake switch was mashed so replaced that with a standard Kawasaki one (they seem all the same). Bike didn't start to begin with and turned out the air filter was filthy. So I washed it and cleaned it out but it deteriorated a little. Took it out after that and came back with a big grin - what a sound! I think it's a little too loud because of the filter.
Bike is now getting seals done. However, still a few probs:
Firstly, the revs don't want to drop below 4,000. Apart from that it's revs fine. (Bit dangerous)
Secondly, when I was taking it to the garage, it suddenly lost all power - there was no response from the throttle in all gears, was doing about 50-55.
Could this be all down to the air filter?

Re: A big hello and my ZXR 250
i wouldnt ride around too long without an air filter as you dont want the carbs to suck crap from the road in, and yes you will get alot of induction noise from no airfilter and this could also cause the revs to hang

The filter is still there - I wouldn't think of riding it without one. It's just that it deteriorated a little. The filter basically looks like a hat and the ends have come off. I'm actually going to order one right now - was just hoping that that's the only problem

make sure the airbox is secure as this can cause and air leak causing the revs to hang
