Newbie from Stockport

Post by landynick »

Hi all,

I'm Nick, 33, a railway rolling stock engineer and train driver (Limited to depot work), from Stockport, Cheshire.

I'm new to this site and new to ZXR's. I've been riding bikes for about 17 Years on the road, and a few more off road, although I've not had an off road bike since I got my first road bike at 16. I've had a fair few bikes over the years ,including :- a Jawa 210 - a 50cc pedal and pop moped, a couple of MZ TS125's and a TS 250, a Honda 250 superdream, Honda 400/4 (One of my favourite bikes I've owned), A brand spanking new GSXR600, a GSXR 750 which I had a big off on and broke my back in 4 places and right leg in 3 places and had a nice 13 month holiday from work! After that I bought a new Aprilia SR125 scooter which was a hoot! Then got a 2002 Kawasaki ER-5 off my dad (6 years old at the time) with 6500 miles on the clock for £500! I've still got the ER-5 and have just bought a ZXR400L2 in a bit of a state (See pics below) off a mate at works son for £300 as a bit of a project.

What was originally going to be just a bit of a quick tart up has now become a bit more of an ambitious project after seeing Millameters rebuild (Cheers for that, I think my wife now hates you Millameter!)

I don't think I can achieve anything that would even come close to the quality of that rebuild, but I'll try. Don't hold your breath though, I'm not planning on it being a quick restoration, due to having a wife and 2 young kids and a Landrover series 3 in the middle of a restoration project, which I've promised 'er indoors that I'll finish before I spend any money on the ZXR!

Anyway, pics below!

Hmm, nice paint job!

Anyway, it's all stripped down now and slowly going through the sand blaster at work!

Nice to meet you all

Thanks master!

I'll have to get the hang of posting piccies if I want to document the very slow resto in the rebuilds thread.

Hey! :smt001

Welcome to the forum!

£300 With a decent engine sounds good to me!

I'm Also doing a slow resto on my bike wich i recently bought but the engine was toast! Just waiting on some more parts, Recieved some genuine kawasaki parts in today from a seller on ebay so hopefully get the new engine rebuilt in the next couple of weeks!

Look forward to following your build!

I'm in Reddish mate, a mere 2 miles away.
Your landy looks a little better than mine at the moment!
What state is your bike in, mine needs quite a bit of work, and I've promised the wife that I'll sort the landrover before I spend any money on the bike!

Just as a matter of interest, if you, or anyone in the area for that matter, need anything sandblasting, I've got a large blast cabinet at work, and can sort any bits you may want doing free of charge.

Would be good to meet up at sometime perhaps?

Regards,

Nick
