Hi!

Newbie from Norway. 28yo.

Just want to start to say thank you to all you admins running this site with all of these helpful threads and discussions and problem solving.

Just bought a ZXR400 L1 (first bike, certificate during this summer) that show her age naturally. Planning to do a lot of cosmetic and mechanical TLC. The previous owner found it clever to use a grinder to chop a new headlight in to the upper fairing . And a pretty bad welding on the bracket holding the speedo/clock/rev-gauges...

Runs like hell, but probably need some adjustments on the cylinders/carb. to run smoother.

Since I don't have the knowledge to upload photos of my bike, i will have to read more in this forum and to that later
(file is too large even with 0.8mbit and 100/800 scale)

Hi again!!

Well, trying to get some images of my bike again.
As said, not sure if I should repaint original plastic, or get a second fairingset from ebay.
Also having some rust problems on the exhaust manifold. Thinking about ordering a complete kit from blackwidow

Repainted original fairings will look better than new aftermarket...you could even try to get them vinyl wrapped.

As for rust on the downpipes, unless there are physical holes in them a bit of rust is no worry, however the originals are thin steel and don't last long, so get some aftermarket stainless steel ones and they will last a lot longer

@banner001 Great, thanks for the answers! Have considered wrapping, and I think I'll give it a try during the winter. Any experiences from manufactures or brands? (wrapping quality/thickness/shine?) I'll look for tips in the forum aswell
speaking of the manifold, there are no holes yet, but I am living by the salty coastal weather so I recon I have to buy a new system later

hi there, ive not looked into vinyl wrapping myself...so i cant give you any answers, but it should be a cheap way to get a good finish...

Hmm... My knowledge limits me yet again

After reading a lot about the different L´s and model year I'm starting to wonder how much of my bike that are original parts.
My 400 L is a 1991 model stated in the papers i received from the norwegian state vehicle department. But again unsure of model type.

I'm confused because I have different parts on it, for example:

- The rear spoiler/handle bar but they didn't have that before 1995
- The CDI is a blue M (21119-1332 DENSO), but the clock is in km/h unsure of one wire is grey or faded pink
- Fairings are blue (obvious from pics), haven't checked for makers mark inside. And the logos on all cowls and tank are missing
- Pre-owner fitted a single unit double bulb head light (with a grinder!!! F@#k..)
- Loom has a city light wire
- Black frame
- Restricted sticker front right side frame. The washers are removed from head pipes, is there more to de-restrict? I've read that the M cdi doesn't have a restriction on rev limit(?) or exceeding over 105mph/180kph
- also adding frame number if that is to any help.

-im not sure about the 1991 and 1992 bikes, but definitely from 1993 onwards the german bikes had the spoiler and different subframe mount.
-the M spec CDi is a popular upgrade as it removes any possible restrictions
-the L1 frame numbers start with 000001, the L2 starts from 009001 so your frame (i.e. whats defined as "the bike") is a mid-production 1991
