I've come to the 'green' side (with questions)

Well its not actually green, but you get the gist.... lol

I just bought a zxr 1992 L2 model, haven't had any riding other than test ride as I haven't insured it yet but given it a once over and a good clean This is my 2nd bike, the first was a VFR 400 (NC24) I do love a V4 engine there just the dogs danglies (i hope thats not blasphemy or nethin on this forum) lol

I don't yet know how to post pictures but its black and grey, so you'll just have to use your imagination for now!

Another thing, is there a simple way to raise the back end a little, I'm not that tall (5'10) but im used to bein a little higher off the ground

Also, is the rear brake usually very very weak, or does mine just need sorting? I think it could do with a pad change and a bleed.
The front brake is brilliant, just thought u should know

hello mate.
Dont feel bad about the honda and the v4's. Your cured now, and will soon forget about all that honda nonsence in a blur of inline peakiness and gasket failures!
take the seat off, maybee the tank too (not sure on the L model), and you will find the top of the shock has a ride height adjuster
the rear brake will probs just need a strip and clean. they always get the road sheite all over them and pistons tend to stick,etc.. could be pads/fluid too.

Cheers fellas, yea the gasket failure i think i already have....this is pretty straghtforward rite? Carbs off - top of engine off and there it is?? Is there a base gasket that may have gone too? And where is the cam chain on this thing?? cheers

it has been known for people to leave the base gasket out, personally its there for a reason.cam chain is on the rhs.

but do they have a tendency to blow like the head gasket?? At least the carbs are easier to get back on than a V4 !! lol

Good news, well i'l give the head gasket and clutch a go and take it from there. Tried uploadin piccies nd all but apparently there too big? max size allowed is 256 kb?

but do they have a tendency to blow like the head gasket??

thing with base gaskets is, you need to change them when you change the headgasket, because the head bolts pass through the block to the crankcase and therefore taking the head off disturbs the seal on the base gasket.

wether you spend a few quid on a new one and fit it, or seal with a light smear of silicon instead of the gasket is up to you

the gasket measures 0.2mm

i've now rebuilt 3 engines without one fitted .. no problems yet

Where would i need to smear the silicon to seal it, i'm not 100% sure where the base gasket is!!
