Not yet passed my test but have a 12month plan!

Post by jwalker80 »

Hiya Gentlemen...... and ladies!
im not yet a rider, but have just bought a kawasaki zxr 400 in several boxes, and have schedueled a 12 month plan to put the bike back together, (mint) hve it sprayed up,and pass my test by this time next year!! So may require some help along the way if you would all be soo kind.
If anybody has any tips for me, such as upgrades, universal parts etc..... let me know open to anything as it is all in pieces. I have heard that 750 brakes will bolt straight on, and an upgrade for the 750 is gsxr calipers, has anybody tried putting these on a 400?
My 1st problem already is the shock. looks like i may need another one, anybody know of any upgrades or just other shocks that will fit?

Cheers, John.

Hi John, there was a topic on here not so long ago about calliper upgrades. Good luck with the rebuild, I know how you feel, I'm rebuilding a honda 400/4 at the moment :smt013 sometime frustrating.

Not really that bad as long as all the bits are good, if you buy a £500 zxr your probs gonna strip it down anyway lol, just saved him a job :smt003
Depends how much you wanna spend, you could get a nice new ohlins part, or get a second hand jobbie off ebay...
Try the brakes out first before you decide if you wanna upgrade, most people get more than enough power out of the standard brakes as long as they're looked after.

Best of luck mate, keep us posted!!

Hello mate,

Just looking at your pics that you have there. The second pic looks like you have lots of mini zxr parts and the third looks like you have a giant frame next too that door.

Good luck with the build. Should be alot of fun and extremely satisfying when it comes 2getha at the end

Yeah im sure its the same bike lol The previous owner started to overhaul it by trying to repair the fairings and paint the wheels, but without great success, he also spent hours stripping the frame and attempting to polish it up, but within an hour i had rubbed it all down ready to be painted!! (felt abit bad) This was initialy a 12mnth plan but due to, what im blamming on the credit crunch its gonna take a little bit longer, but it is still in progress and the frame will be painted TODAY!! if anybody has any other ideas please let me know im open to anything!
My colour scheme is gonna be matt slate frame with matt black and white panels, hopefuly will look good and abit different!
