Overflow bottle for race requirements

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Overflow bottle for race requirements

Post by ventura01 »

Hi all,
Im in Australia and just recently picked up a 92 ZXR400 race bike. I have an SRAD gixer 600 race bike too. Only thing is there are bugger all ZXR400s here and I have one question im hoping you may be able to answer.
The over flow bottle required (as the overflow from the coolant, fuel and air box drain) for racing hasnt been fitted to my ZXR, does anyone know of a sweet spot to put one? Ive been all over the bike but havent been real happy with the spots available. The gixxer was easy but a few frowns from scruitineers as it is up under my seat! I am considering doing the same with the ZXR.
This is a great site
Thanks for looking.

Hi again,
Oh yea probably didnt explain that well! The standard one is great, this is the overflow for if the standard one overflows it will squirt out onto the track! the bottle I need to mount catches everything that would come out of the over flow pipes if bike over heats or if fuel/oil is coughed up through the air box and out to drain etc. Essentilly I cant leak anything from the bike onto the race track....
So if anyone has photos or info for a spot to put this it would help, or ill just fit it where it fits and see what the scruitineers reckon! Like I said this bike is rare in my neck of the woods, theres a few in other cities, just not mine! so I dot see any race prepd. All bloody gixers and r6s here!
Thanks

i have a plastic bottle cable tied to the radiator just below the cap where the overflow pipe comes out.
It works fine for me there.

i use a plastic drink bottle ziptied in the standard place, with my rad overflow and oil breather in that, and make sure its empty before i race... i would'nt bother with airbox drain( block the oil breather hole up in standard box) or petrol breather.
i do change it now and again tho, cos it does tend to melt abit..

My bike just had the original expansion tank used as the overflow. There's no rules saying you need an expansion tank. Block up the hole on the bottom. Feed the radiator overflow to the top. and feed the crank breather into to filler hole. You just need to top the rad up so that when it's hot it doesn't overflow into the bottle. I used to top it up to just above the lower part of the pipe as you look down the rad cap.
