It Runs!!!

Post by markzxr400l3 »

I would just like to say a big thanks to all on this site for helping me during my strip down and re-build of my L3.

When I got the bike it wouldnt rev past 6k, leaked coolant, had a head gasket failure, rattling cam-chain, would only start sometimes, All brackets were rusty, all fixings siezed. It had been left outside for 2 years. In order to get this bike to where it is I've done the following:

Stripped the bike back to the frame
Put a zx4 head on the original barrels
Re-shim valve clearances
New head gasket
New cam-chain
Cleaned and sprayed the engine
Cleaned the carbs
New Air filter
Painted every bracket
New ignition barrel and tank cap
Braided hoses front and rear
Changed the rear shock
Polished the wheel rims
New top yoke + polish
Cleaned every (EVERY) part

The bike now runs as smooth as you like. Ticks over great and revs all the way into the red.

There are still a few things left to do. I need to replace the fork seals, replace the very dodgy wiring loom and sort the high beam (import wiring I think i.e. a UK loom and relay might sort it).

Anyway, chuffed to bits, and I absolutely could not have done it without this forum. CHEERS GUYS!!!!

Carbon mudgaurd came with it (took 2 hours to get off due to corroded fasteners. The rear Hugger is carbon as well.
