Is it true that you can get away with buying a restriction kit fitting it and then getting a dyno run read out for proof of restriction instead of paying 200 pounds for a garage to do it ?
Will the insurance companies accept this ?

Re: 33 bhp restriction
Having the 33BHP kit made no difference to my ZXR400 insurance at all. Even with the restrictor kit in the bike still did 110mph, and still out accelerated most things on 4 wheels. Only thing missing was top end and there was nothing else above 10k.
You just learn to short shift and carry more corner speed.
My girlfriend didn't have a restrictor kit fitted and whenshe was involved in an accident they didn't look into her licence to see that she was restricted, or look at the bike. From what I can tell it only matters if you get stopped for speeding, and even then... I got stopped on my R6 for going a little too quick, and again the oficer who stopped me just checked that I had insurance and MOT and told me to slow down and change to my clear visor as it would be getting dark soon.

Re: 33 bhp restriction
well thats definitly good to know but still i think i may have to ring an insurance company to ask them if a dyno read out would be acceptable because i think paying 200pounds to make a bike slower is just criminal.

You're paying £200 for a stupid bit of blue paper (the certificate) which supposedly has to be fitted buy an approved fitter. My mates dad did mine and when I asked they told me they didn't want me to send it because they didn't consider it when doing quotes.
I'd still go and get the dyno done, but beware that the dyno run could show 38BHP which would mean that you'd be proving that you're not legally allowed to ride your bike, thus incriminating yourself..

Re: 33 bhp restriction
cool but why should it come up as 38bhp when the 33bhp kit was installed ?

I believe dyno's are quite variable. hence the recommendation when you do any engine work is to make sure you retest it on the same dyno so you know what you've actually achieved.Random wrote:cool but why should it come up as 38bhp when the 33bhp kit was installed ?
Of course this could work in your favour, just try a couple till you get one that says it's less than 33, and keep that printout!
