Fuel

Post by tam133 »

I wanted to see what you all manage to get from a full tank and how much roughly it costs you to fill your tank up?

I have an L9 model and dont seem to get much miles from a full tank and also when I fill it up only costs about £10, bearing in mind its pretty empty when I do. Also when I look in the tank looks like quite a bit left but then it cuts out as though ran out so put it on reserve and can go for 20 miles or so and then fill up.
Just wanted to know if this is what it should be like or am I being stupid and not putting enough petrol in even though its pretty much to the max.

it depends entirely on how you ride. I usually manage to get 12 litres in my gixxer, the most I have ever gotten is 140, I usually get around 115 if Im riding at a leisurely pace. If I'm riding with my other half and my friend on their K1200Rs, I get about 100 to a tank. On the Nurburgring, I was getting about 80 miles to a tank.
So, in terms of fuel economy, that equates to somewhere between 52mpg (140miles) and 30mpg (80 miles) depending on how I am riding :P
draw from that what you will

lol ive read them before, but for the extra 90p it costs i thought it might be worth it for once (if its gunna make a change to any engine your gunna notice it most on a bike). just to see what i recon.

it wont give more power but it will stop detonation (pinking) if your engines state of tune is "on the limit" for standard fuel... my porsche 924 pinks badly on normal fuel but is fine on "super duper unleaded", but thats only because the distributor is worn so the static advance has been increased to allow it to actually rev out properly.

Dont you mean pre-detonation?
Woundn't have thought you would go far if your fuel didn't detonate :smt005

detonation refers to an uncontrolled explosion of fuel, an engine running correctly *burns* fuel, there's a subtle but scientifically defined difference :P

pinking is sometimes referred to as pre-ignition, which i think is where some of the confusion comes from.
