Hi, I've read the guide to removing the limiter but just wondering how many people have successfully done it? I have a Jap 1992 (L2?) and I'm starting to get annoyed with the limiter - I can reach it in 5th gear!!
I'm a bit apprehensive about dismantling my speedo in case I balls it up and make it look like I've 'clocked' it (Mine's only done 15000 km's as it is!).
I'm normally good with sorting things mechanically so I'm sure it'll be fine, but basically if anyone has any extra pointers/advice that's not included in the guide, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Awesome little bike though. Handles like my old Aprilia RS yet has some ferocious grunt for a 400.
Cheers

Re: Speed Limiter
it was easy enough to dismantle, the only problem i had was removing the actual metal surround holding the glass in , had to lever it off then cut it with snips, then split the rubber with a stanley blade, wether you can do it without damaging it has yet to be seen but speedo was tested afterwards and proved to work. You should be ok with the mileage as long as you don't upset the digits cos it can be a pig to get the digits all back in line.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Hi, do you mean you have a H2 model? With the KPH speedo?
This is what I had & mine would cut in about 110/115MPH, I got a convertor which converts the speedo from KPH to MPH so that the limit of about 180KPH will never be reached.
It now tops out around 130'ish

Thats what mine must have, saw a little carb it with all my docs that says somthing like 'ZXR400 Rev Booster', and the speedo is now in mph.stuw00d wrote:Hi, do you mean you have a H2 model? With the KPH speedo?

Does this mean that the counters are in miles rather than km now?

Re: Speed Limiter
Not too sure mate, mine is simply a gear thingy, which goes in between the speedo cable & the speedo itself.....
Witchcraftery happens & my KPH speedo reads MPH, not sure how accurate it is but is fine for me & yes, the counter is now in miles so I just made a note of the mileage in KPH when I put it on, then do the maths.

Where did you get such sorcery? Sounds like an easier solution.stuw00d wrote:Hi, do you mean you have a H2 model? With the KPH speedo?

I guess that works because the limiter is controlled by needle position. Unless I reach 185-190mph it won't kick in!

Cheers
EDIT: Ok found a site that does them for £35 delivered. I'm slightly apprehensive as my L2 has only done 16000 km and when I come to sell it, people are going to think it's 16000 miles.
I guess if I keep the receipt I can prove the mileage only begins from that date... or I remove it and say it's all been in km!

If I decide to mod the speedo instead, I'll take pics and add to the research. Having come from an Aprilia RS, I'm used to reading speed in kph.
