Itoham ZXR400

Post by Danladi- »

Hey guys, I've been doing some work on a zxr400 Itoham and I'd like to start off by saying that this website and forums have been a great help! :)

After about 9 hours work yesterday I put it all back together and took it around the block for a spin. I think i'm in love lol.

I'm 19 years old so the zxr is my first big bike (restricted for now yawn... ) The Itoham paintjob is a limited edition japanese-only paintjob. I believe there were only 500 made. So there can't be too many in the UK i bet.

The work i've been doing on it is purely cosmetic, i've repainted all of the fairings and some minor jobs like tuning up the carbs etc.

My name's Daniel, I'll try get some pics up on the weekend as it's dark when i get home from work nowadays...

Welcome daniel, sounds like you got a good bike there! Loo forward to the pictures!

Never knew only 500 reps were made, guess it makes sense with homologation rules!

Hey guys, not the best photos in the world due to the fact that it seems to rain whenever i want to do anything with my bike :P
Anyway, thought i'd take some anyway as i said i would :) The bodywork is an original Kawasaki ZXR400 paintjob which is very similar to the race colours of the Itohham sponsored kawasaki team that won an 8 hour endurance race on the Suzuka circuit in Japan. I've tried to do some research into more information for you guys but it seems to be a very rare bike in the UK. The guy i bought it off gave me a bit of info but how reliable it is i don't know. He said it is a japanese import bike (true) and that they apparently only made 500 of this ltd edition bodywork. (which would explain how little information there is about the bike)

The paint was in not-so-great condition when I bought it and i decided to do some touch up work... One thing led to another and i've pretty much resprayed the entire bike. I've tried to keep it as true to its original colours as possible. (kudos to the paintshop for matching the colours so well) Did all of the paintwork under a big piece of plastic hanging between our two sheds so I think i did as well as can be expected :P

Although it's pretty standard, I have made a few bolt-on modifications. These include new mirrors, a double bubble screen (I love the "ZXR" logo on the screen, the guys did a great job with it), blue bolts for the screen, red clutch and brake leavers as well as red bar end weights. I'm not too sure whether the wheels are standard or not as they came with the bike. I want do put some iridium bulbs in when i have a chance, but after 3 months of working on it on weekends I just want to ride the damn thing :)

Once again, if anyone has any more information about this particular bike I'd really appreciate it.

-Dan

Thats really nice mate, dunno about the wheels either, makes sense they be red tho. The Itoham models are a completely standard L model just with fancy bodywork it seems.

Yeah, the only other picture of the Itoham model had a clear screen and white wheels i think it was. No idea if that one was standard either tho heh.

Hey Wazsup! just joined the club

I own an Ham in Japan. 1991 31,000Km

I stacked it into an old bird 'bout a year ago when she rushed out in front of me, she spent 3 months in hospital, completely ruined my fairings I hate that. kept it upright and suffered a sprained little finger - go figure? There is a bunch of old people doing insurance scams here by getting knocked down on crossings.

So gave it a home custom paint job (same colour scheme) but used a Mazda Blue, Red, and Pearl White - looks ok, yup - got white rims too. think I could find Ito Ham decals - yea right? There is a company here in Japan specializes in no name brands called Mujii, so I call my bike a Mujii bike - not a logo in sight!

I'll take some pics and post them......Later
