K & N's for a ZXR?

Im looking to buy a new air filter for the bike, as well, the standard one is pretty horrible. Id like the clip on ones with 4 individual filters for each carb, but really anything will do, those just look abit trick. Ill be looking to get it set up properly on a dyno aswel.

you can get a K&N panel filter for the airbox, i wouldent go with 4 cone filters myself wont gain anyperformace from it.

From what i've been told the K&N panel filter wont be any better than the stanadard one, will last forever tho

you can wash the foam one pretty much ad infinitum anyway.

i too was advised against the 4 individual filters and go for a panel filter.

plus u cant see them with tank and fairings on so who cares what they look like.

i would get the jetting checked if u r putting an aftermarket filter on tho, my 7r ran like a bag of toad when i put a k&n on it so i went back to standard and cant be arsed with rejetting

you should be arsed, even in standard fourm the bikes jetting is toad, way way way to rich for noise contro reasons. £200 odd will get you a dyno jet kit and a properly set up by experts. The kit its self (combined with a exhurst and air filter) will give you a masive ammount of extra middrange as well as extra top end power. Not to mention the extra MPG

General consensus with the ZXR400 seems to be that a K&N filter will be exactly the same as the standard one but costs a hell of a lot more...

Spend the money on something else!

They do make a big difference on some other bikes, but not this one!

i went through the whole dynojetting things when i k&n'd my 400 and had a full race system on it, and it was nothing but trouble, constant tweaking and money - thats why i cant be arsed.

and tbh, on the road the standard setup gives more than enough power for me, on my 7r that is, maybe with the 400 it needed the jet kit

you couldent have had a good job done...more midrange is never ever a bad thing on road. Its more for how much smother the bike becomes for me, but then i've done abit more than just stuck an end can on and put an filter

im not saying they dont work, but for road riding, the added expense and dyno time didnt justify it for me to do it again to my 7r

i know they were done right before cuz my bike mechanic worked for a kawasaki superbike team years ago before going it alone with his own garage so i've no reason to doubt his abilities

Anybody had theres set up on a dyno? Its only something im thinking about doing just to get the bike running abit smoother.

ahh just keep it as it is... you cant go wrong if you want more power, upgrade.. i think you will have to spend afew pennies to gain a couple of bhp.

I had a K & N, cost me £40 and it worked well.
Only needed cleaning instead of changing with every service, so it saved me money in the long run.
