Hi, I'm New!

Hi I'm new to the bike world and I've got my sights set on the ZXR400.
I've got a few questions that I'm hoping you can answer.

I've been given a 1994 ZX-9R with 16,000 miles said to have been a good runner but it has been standing for a while and needs some minor work.The insurance is far too expensive and I'd prefer to start with a 400. I was wondering how much these are worth so that I can get a fair price. Maybe someone here is looking to trade?



I've been looking at the AMS Motorsport site. I love the look of the aftermarket fairings they have.
Has anyone bought this kit? I'd love to see some pictures or maybe some more info on the AMS bike itself.

Welcome to the forums.

ZX9's are quite reliable bikes, jamz on here has one and he loves it. Saying that, its pretty powerful for a first bike and abit on the heavy side, a 400 is ideal. As for the AMS kit, no-one i know has acutally bought the whole thing as one, however, people who race 400's have done similar conversions.

Have a good look round the site, its full to the brim with useful info.

It's a very heavy bike to start off on... although having said that, a Bandit 600 actually weighs more than that ZX9R!

I doubt very much I'd be alive if I started off on mine, though, because I love to thrape a bike and that would have been too much too soon.

The good news is that I bought mine with 32,000 miles on for the bargain price of £1170 and can easily get £2000-2500 in part exchange for it (but mine is the faster green one ).

Oh, and mine had been stood for a long time when I bought it, and didn't sound the best, but still managed the 100 mile trip back home easily and got better the more I ran it, so it should be ok. Just check when the valve clearances and cam chain tensioner was last done.

If you really want a ZXR400 then I'd recommend finding an absolutely mint example in a dealers for £3000 upwards, and see if they'll take the ZX9R in part exchange for it - that way you'll have dealer backup for it, too!

400's are perfect to start on, anything bigger then your eaither going to hurt yourself or become a awfull rider and relie on the power to make you fast round the lanes

I think I'm set on the 400, it's just a case of getting the 900 roadworthy and trading it in now.
