Anyone using virgin media?

Post by RedexRobB »

Cos they have been the most unreliable ISP ive ever had!

Since just before christmas our internet connection has been on and off. After christmas it seemed to be resolved, but last few weeks the connection has been dissaperaing from about 8-9am till late afternoon early evening. It then went off 9.30 last friday for the entire day, i know cos i was up till 2 saturday morning, went home for the weekend and hoped that it would be bck by monday, guess what, still no effing connection! Went to goto my uni library to use thier and the bastids were closed for easter monday, doh! Woke up this morning, still nothing :smt013

Luckily i have the choice of going elsewhere for the internet, but its simply taking the piss!!

Scouring the internet it seems others are having the same problem but i dont seem to be able to find out why. :smt017

Oh right! So is it the modem thats the problem then? We only got the modem in october when we moved into the house! I also thought it might have something to do with them installing the fibre optics which are now coming in.

I just cant believe its so bad, as a customer broadband to me is supposed to be there 24/7 and thats what i expect. Ive got a final year project report to write, how the hell am i supposed to get on with no internet connection?

I dont seem to be able to find anything on thier website either :smt012

I used to use Virgin broadband (the non-cable one), has got to be the worst ISP i've ever used :smt013.

Ntl bought Telewest, then Virgin bought Ntl, so Virgin pretty much monopolise the cable market. I'm suprised they havn'e been fined.

Its a proper cable modem, not through the telephone line.

Well i tried the other modem and no success, and still no internet. :smt013 Was talking to my housemate last night and i think we are going to call them this week. Luckily for us we have the internet at our uni, but im sure other people dont have that luxury. If anyone is running a business from home they are bound to be stuck.

Im gonna have a look at the contract tonight and see if i can threaten them with not paying because why should we pay for something we're not recieving, and if that dont motivate them to sort it then i may have words with who ever regulates it and submit a complaint, is it OFFCOM?

before uni i was with telewest at home, and last year with NTL, but virgin seem to be taking the biscuit!

we've been with them for years mate paying £75 a month, threatened them with going elsewhere and they couldn't give a toss, as said they monopolise the market so can pick and choose who they keep.

you'd probably get on a lot quicker cos you wouldn't be on here. :smt003

been with ntl/virgin for 18 months now for phone/net/tv. £30 a month.

- internet's generally ok, occasionally slow but always connected. at least they give you a proper modem with an ethernet port in the back rather than the bloody mickey mouse usb one that our last ADSL provider gave us. And it works as soon as you turn the power on to the modem, rather than behaving like a dialup connection.

- phone's a phone. it works.

- TV package got a lot worse when Virgin took over - they took a whole load of channels out of the cheaper packages. but it's still got eurosport - otherwise we'd be off to sky pretty quick!
