Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
What was it for?
I had the 'pleasure' of it once, when I was about 8.
One of my friends knocked on my door one Sunday afternoon, holding something like a bottle cap, and said "Sniff this - it smells of curry!"
Being something of Tit-head even in my younger years, I lowered my nose to it and took a good old whiff.
Erk.
Suddenly my nose was clogged up and I couldn't breathe!
I ran around the garden a bit, frothing at the mouth and doing my best to scream like a girl, as the mate disappeared sharpish.
Someone called an ambulance which must have arrived in record time, and then I was in the back with an oxygen mask and whisked off to the local hospital with sirens and lights flashing.
To this day I'm not really sure why I didn't just breathe out of my damn mouth - I guess I was just panicking.
Anyway, it turned out that my mate (who was found many hours later hiding behind my dustbin and shitting himself), had got hold of some Sneezing Powder, and didn't expect me to die and stuff.
The insides of my snout were a bit burnt by the stuff, but otherwise I was fine.
I suppose everyone should have a ride in an ambulance at some point in their life - I just hope that's my only time!
Anyone else been in one for funny, unusual or genuine reasons?

Ahh, the Mallory ambulance!
I remember once the V8 Eurocars were racing on the oval circuit, and coming off Gerrards onto the pit straight (they raced anti-clockwise), one car got a good run out, hitting the car in front just enough to lift the wheels so he went into the classic oval slide, slamming broadside into the end of the pit wall.
All the windows blew out with the pressure and the car stopped dead, and then it took well over 30 minutes to safely get the driver out of the wreckage because of back and neck injuries.
Then they loaded him into the ambulance, and i couldn't help but laugh as it pulled onto the grass around the other cars down the pit straight, discovering possibly the bumpiest section of grass I've ever seen in my life!
Can't have done him any good!
(he did make a full recovery and was back racing again soon)

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
I know I must have gone in that ambulance, and Im fairly sure that it took me to leicester Royal Infirmary. Was far too concussed to remember a damn thing
Apparently I couldnt even remember how old I was. I didnt break anything, but its easier for people to accept that you are 'ill/injured' when you have a physical injury. As far as people were concerned, I looked OK and therefore I was OK. Took a good six months or so to get back to 'normal' (whatever normal is:P)

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
conclusion, don't land on your head.
I went in an ambulance about an hour ago - the guy that comes round and sells sandwiches on the science park I work on does so out of a decommissioned ambulance.
I've never (touch wood) actually wound up in a real one. Although I have been driven to A&E in my own car.

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
Only accompanying someone. Some bloke I used to work for had a fit and went into status epilecticus(lack of oxygen to the brain). I had to give him liquid diazepam(valium) up his butt as he was blue, a most unpleasant business altogether. Riding in the ambulance was fun though, what with the sirens and all.
Action is the antidote to despair.

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
Been in one twice.
Once when i went shopping with my mum as a young lad. She stopped at the petrol station to fill up, got out the car and she fell over. She only gone and slipped on a wet metal drain cover and broke her ankle. Guy that worked there called an ambulance and went to hospital with me mum!
Second time was when a chap in a car pulled out on me, i was absolutley fine, i knew i was. But no ne would let me get up or move. did an excellent job of holding up the one way system round Chatham during rush hour
But yes, after a pretty ambulance lady turned up, rubbed my chest for reasons i cant remember now (but it did feel nice, that i do remember), and then a check for spinal and all other injuries they check you for I was whipped into the ambulance and taken to hospital where they checked for more things and got me turned round and out the door in about an hour.

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
Twice....
Anyone old enough to remember the big wooden cigarette vending machines that used to be on the wall outside shops?
Well being a bit of a lad when I was younger and daring to stay out late ("come home when it starts getting dark!") I was messing with older lads when all I can remember is one of these vending machines being hurled over a fence and landing on my head!
Trip to hospital in ambulance, 8 stiches in head, a kitkat off the nurse for being brave and a bollocking from my dad for staying out late!
2nd time for high siding GSXR... Caught out by cold tyres.. First thing I hit was the curb with my collar bone.
Carted to hospital on a spinal board. Nurses wanted to cut my leathers off, BIG NO NO, so had to shake my arm out, major pain with bust collar bone
! Still 6 weeks off work, 1 knackered GSXR, leathers still in use even with the self inflicted air vents!! After which the ZXR turned up
!
Rob.

Re: Have You Ever Been In An Ambulance?
i have been in them 3 times, only 1 time with sirens and lights though
my personal favourite was when i died... my dentist tried to kill me with the lethal injection (only kidding, im allergic to the anaestetic they use but we didnt know )
and the other 2 times were dislocated knee, thump and finger (motocross accident) and broken arm and rib (rugby accident).
not bad going for 17 years of trying
