Advice needed regarding selling my zxr

Post by thunderpups »

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so please be nice. :smt003

I currently own a 2003 zxr400, green & white, around 5k miles, 12mths mot, tax march 09, full service history, immaculate condition.

I'm looking to sell it but havent got a clue how much it is worth. Ive ended up with a back injury from a fall down the stairs 2 years ago which makes riding the 400 uncomfortable and due to not riding my bike anymore, i've lost all confidence.

I've just been holding onto my bike as it was a present and the attitude of 'its there if i need it' but now i realise im holding onto something that should be really be giving someone a lot of fun. so i've been looking around to see if there is a market for them. I dont want to go to a shop as i feel i will get ripped off.

Ideally i would like another female rider to make use of it but i dont know any other female riders plus i cant be fussy if im selling it.

Does anyone know how much it would be worth or anywhere i can take it without getting ripped off??

Im in the manchester area.

Cheers

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Thats sad to hear you cant really ride it especially due to loosing your confidence as well as your back.

But you should get a very good price for your ZXR as examples such as yours are really hard to find. If it were me i wouldnt let that go for less than 2K otherwise your giving it away. Id ask for 2.5K and see what interest you get.

Anyway, thats my view, lets see what everyone else thinks.....

edit
Just seen this on bike trader and they are asking £3299 for a bike which as far as im aware is similar to your just a few ears older.

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/ww ... x_mileage=

So guess you need to ask around the 3K figure if thats anythig to go by.

Thanks RedexRobB for your advice, i truly never thought it would be worth that much. I thought i would be lucky if i got 1.5k for it never mind 2.5k.
Im totally gutted about it as i was getting very confident on it and loved giving the lads a run for their money every now and again. I even got rid of my chicken strips and was close to getting my knee down but a broken back sadly ended all that. Once i got back on my bike a year later, the lads and hubby didnt do a lot for my confident as they over protected me on the bike rides and it caused endless rows and i slowly stopped going out.

I keep thinking about getting up a sit up and beg bike but i openly admit that im a tart and like my sports bikes with all the fancy fairing and paint schemes. The other problem i have is......im 5ft 2 and cant touch the floor on a lot of bikes. I know i can learn over to one leg but the back injury has caused nerve damage and stops me twisting certain ways.

I will see about getting an advert in the autotrader or maybe ebay and will see what happens.

One thing i do know is, once i sell it, i wont be around to see it go as i will be heartbroken and im suppose to be a biker and bikers dont cry like big babies over their bikes!!! :smt005 :smt005

Very sorry to hear about your injury Thunderpups.

I broke my leg last year and tore a lot of ligament, luckily I made a full recovery and now count every minute in the saddle as a bonus. Why not get a comfy low thing?

I spent 2 years without a bike and by the end of it ALL bikes looked good!!! Even fancied a superdream 250 at one point!!!!

Soz...hope you get a good price.

lol, i sold my 7R a few weeks back, pleased to say i wasnt close to tears but defo didnt wanna see it go :(

Bike trader is probably a better place to sell it i would have thought, only sell on ebay if you want quick cash but the downside is you generally dont get what its worth. Bike trader is the other way around, where it will take time to sell but you will get alot closer to its true value.

Have you tried a more sensible bike thats a bit more upright? With a bit of money spent theres no reason why you couldnt put some more upright handle bars on. Having said that, you could probably sell the ZXR and buy something thats more suited and still have money left.

Whats with the name 'Thunderpups' ? Are you well blessed in some way?

tbh i think 1.8k from a very intrested buyer is more reasonable. People wont pay big money for 400's anymore considering they can get somthing like a GSXR SRAD 600 for 1,400. 2.5k for a slower spec, slower 400 seems silly in there mind.

Sorry to hear your giving up, why not just go riding on your own? then youre not trying to keep up with anyone or having to listen to there bitching..

Having said that i worry when following female friends wether its driving or riding, i dont no why, if it was a bloke id not care at all think its just natural instincts to try and look after women :smt017

You cant get better bike protection. :smt005 :smt005

My bike is going onto the autotrader so will see what happens and im even going to go and see our local kawasaki dealer.

Just the thought of doing this is making me feel sick but whats the point of it rotting away in the garage. vsad

if the zxr is bad for your bike see if you can have a try on a sv650.. not quite as nice in the twistys but i love the engine in mine hehe
much more comfortable and still suited to shortys
The bike only goes as fast as you want it to...
...i know, it's great :D
