rattley noise #102
ello again!
my poor little bike sounds like a barrel full of skeletons at the mo!
i have just been investigating (which has been made very difficult by the theft of my paddock stand) a clicking coming from somewhere in the region of the front sprocket, maybe just above it - im just not sure as i have no helpers handy at the mo!
its constant, and i only notice it when i roll the bike forwards or backwards when the engine is off, it occurs in gear and in neutral.
you can also see that the chain also jerks a little in sync with the clicking... it sounds a bit like when your pushbike doesnt go into gear properly.
i dont notice it at all when riding, even a low speed, but that could purely be the engine drowning the sound out
i think the front sprocket and chain are ok for wear.

Re: rattley noise #102
have you whipped the sprocket cover off? sounds like the sprocket is shagged!

ok have you checked all the chain links? could be a tight spot in the chain.

i gave the chain a thourough going over a couple of months ago and i had a quickish fiddle - it seemed ok.
the clicking is constant throughout a whole revolution of the chain, could one tight spot cause constant clicking?
the chain and sprockets are by no means new, but i thought there should be some life left in them, though id be more than haapy if thats the problem!

Re: rattley noise #102
watch the chain as it moves around the sprockets, sounds like they are all worn and need replacing.

ok ok your right i think! i just took the chain off the sprocket spins perfectly without the chain around it! the chain feels very stiff all the way around actually... im such an amateur!
ill keep proding, and let you know, ive seen chain and sprocket sets for jus over 70 squids at wemoto and ebay. if theres somewhere else i should be looking, let me know! thanks again x x x

Re: rattley noise #102
excuse my being noob, but is there any way of fitting a new chain without a link tool (as i dont have one!) ie while the back wheel is off for the new sprocket i can slip it over? or do chains come un-linked?
or should i just folk out the extra tenner for something ill inevitably have to buy one day anyway?!!

Re: rattley noise #102
you aint gonna get a chain tool for a tenner? a pair of mole grips and a spare nut and a hammer is all thats needed.
