if you come screaming up to a bend, brake hard, knock it down 2 or 3 gears and dump the clutch, the back will skitter about .. but it will with a kbatl slipper that hasnt been "tuned" anyway.. dont worry about it.. the non kbatl clutches dont rattle as much anyway :)

looks very clean :) liking the polished cam-cover :)

what exhaust is that ? micron ?

i like slipper clutches, especially for those corners where engine braking on the gear down from current is too severe yet staying in the same gear means a slow ass exit and it just happens to be a right hander where when i'm hanging off i cant actually reach my gear lever with my foot to down shift mid corner.

my old cbr600 had one fitted and haven't noticed them make much difference to normal road riding other then the weird sensation when you first start using one of having less engine braking but you get used to it. but definatly find them useful for personal rideouts seeing as i dont get to change my gearing specifically for where im heading to. less worry on corner entry when the rear isnt chattering around like mad or pinging the needle off the limiter. I was considering purchasing one for my zxr750 but it isnt really top of the list of jobs.

I do reccommend letting people know before you let them have a wee ride on your bike first though. i had a couple of mates swear profusely at me when they set themselves up for the corner with engine braking in mind and carried a little more speed than they were used to into it :smt003

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

they are fitted as standard to zxr750's mate, as they are to L model zxr400's ..

what cbr600 did you have ? i take it that it was an aftermarket sigma jobbie as even the latest cbr600rr doesnt have a slipper clucth fitted.

only place i've ever really needed one was at hatchett's hairpin at pembrey circuit.. and that's only because i was running the wrong gearing so was having to slam it down to 1st at 13,000rpm as 2nd gave me no drive out .. (47th sprocket would have been ok to use second)

yeah but it's not as if you would notice and iirc you need mess about changing the springs to adjust it.

i had an 03 cbr600rr, clutch was fitted by previous owner i think it was a sigma or an stm. the bike ended up getting stolen which was probably one of the biggest low points in my life so far :smt013

It's not a NEED item, but it definatly made some corners a lot more fun.

Hi,

This may sound strange, but I acctually prefer the normal clutch to the slipper on my L2. I;ve just taken the bike out for a spin and you can feel the power everytime you change gear. I knocked it down a couple of gears quite quickly until the revs went really high... but still no back wheel lock up or juddering. This ZX4 engine is bloody powerful compaired to my L2 engine, I'm going to take it on a dyno on the 25th to get her all set up. I recon she's pushing at least 65bhp at the rear wheel. My L2 engine was only giving me 62bhp.

zimm: If I was to reset the tensioner, how tight do I do up the center bolt?

Regards

Rich

see, kbatl clutches dont do toad unless they're fettled :)

zx4 engines fly mate .. my first zx4 was internally stock, the link pipe was crudely de-baffled and it had a home made air filter (cos you couldnt get import spares in 1997) and thames valley police gave me 5 points for doing 143mph on it .. took em 7 miles to catch me n all :)

our current one murdered my L for topend, and it was completely standard at the time except for an L exhaust (with standard quiet road can), while the L had a full micron, DJ kit, KnN..

rumour has it they have essentially SP cams :) but i've never had one apart at the same time as having anything else to compare them to..

superbike mag tested one in a "budget 400" group test years ago against an early gsxr, cb-1, and an early fzr and it gave close to 60bhp completely stock and not setup.

you dont "set" the tensioner as such, winding it in releases the ratchet mechanism so it'll slide up n down freely, then the spring does the tensioning and you back it off till the groove lines up and you can put the circlip back on... if it aint rattling i'd leave it alone.

wire coat hanger bent into the shape of the OE air filter, some wire mesh, and an old t-shirt wrapped round it :)

i spent a whole day doing flat out runs up n down the dual carriageway by my house noting how it went and adding/removing strips of gaffa till it redlined in top and didnt bog anywhere... ahh the joys of being young/skint/inventive/owning a bike you cant get spares for.

i'd have run without one, but that would have meant spending money on jets.
