first problem starting engine
go out thismornign 7am fires up and idles away i go.
ride 10 miles to work, leave it parked up for 3-4 hoours go out start it no problem.
then get home have lunch take bike for a spin and she stalls ( left fuel tap in off position) so turns and turns and nothing, ring dad he come out with jump leads, rig them up to the diesel bmw's battery (silly power) and she spins over and over and over , nothing then try again nothing, then she fires up idles a bit dies , turns over and over once again nothing, then she fires idles fine etc.
so i go jump on motorway nice cruise @ 140-160kmh (33bhp ) nip back break BANG! OMG i toad myself pull of at next junction back brake still working , pull over check bike the bolt that holds the rear caliper on has vanished and the caliper has spun around and clouted the swing arm,
So once again im sat there thinking FFS! so luckily i had my leatherman on me and 5 cable ties under the seat so i cable tied it back in place ( yes i knopw stupid dangerous etc) go to start her NOTHING just spiinign and trying to fire spin spin spin, sit there banging my head on tank, wait 5 mins spins over 6 or 7 times vroom alive yay and rode 5-6 miles home on the front break alone
so any oen got any ideas on the hot start issue ??
setup :
33bhp restricors fitted and carbs professionaly balanced with them in
brand new irisium plugs
stock filter
stock down pipes
renagade competition end can
One thing i have noticed id my fuel pump clicking loudly when she is running ( fuel pump on way out ?? )
other question the rear torque bar ( i think thats what its called) is it just a bolt or is there a bush in there aswell ??

Re: going to scream!!
tried pulling the fuel pipe off at the carbs and turning the engine over to see if any fuel pumps out? there is a thread on the forum somewhere about hotstarting problems, i think its quite a common problem

Re: going to scream!!
If its only doing it when hot then it could be the hot start prolem, for which i believe there is no cure except to leave it to cool.
How new are the plugs? Im assuming also that the bike never had this problem before? Id try standard CR9EK plugs mate (or the CR9E, just as good and cheaper), ive heard the iridium plugs arent really worth the extra expense and cause more problems than they cure.

Re: going to scream!!
i'd swap the plugs first and see what happens, put the old ones back in see if it makes any difference.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: going to scream!!
thats unusual, they were about a quid more expensive when i wanted the CR9EK and didnt have em in stock. Same goes for when i bought iridiums for my XJR400.WelshD1K wrote:+ new iriduim plugs where cheaper than normal plugs locally when i needed them
Id still give the standard CR9EK's or the CR9E's a go. Id be having them out just to check the state and gaps of the plugs.
