Broken Zip Pull Tags!

Post by Jamz »

Quite often I find bits of my bike kit end up using things like paper clips or bent hairpins being used because the pulley bit of the zip has snapped.

I don't know if anyone else has found this, but Sidi boots seem to be the worst for this - £250 pair of boots and the zip pull snapped off the other day, after only a couple of months of use! The old pair had pulls made from surgical steel wire and a big paperclip...

Anyway, after meaning to get the fuckers fixed for about a year, the Sidi snap was the last straw, so I had a look around and found these on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0260838441 made by Prym and with a snap-hook type contraption.

They fix on easy enough, and seem strong. They've also go big chunky pulley bits to grab at whilst in gloves!

So at the risk of sounding a bit camp giving clothing repair advice, order some of these if you're stuggling with your snapped dangly bits!

Come to think of it, teh other current broken puller was on an equally expensive Spyke jacket. Is there some kind of issue with Italian metal pulls, or something?

That seemed a bit pricey to me, but for the ammount of effort and wire-stabbed-fingers it's saved in just a few days it's been well worth it! :smt003

I bought a few of them, and think it was +20p for each additional one, so it's not so bad then.

Plus I look less like a tramp who's found some decent kit!

Isn't it a fkr when they first go and you're trapped in them unless you can shove something through the zip thingy to release it? :smt003

The barskets at work were most amused by it... :smt009 :smt012

i've just had my SIDI Vertigo boot repaired because i poped the zip open :smt013

Cost £28 for the new zip and sowed in. Looks like new and works perfectly! Kind of annoying for a boot that would have cost £200+ new and only done about 6,000 miles.

There's a leatherware shop just around the corner from my work, so I simply dropped in there and bought a meter of rawhide thong. Job done, and at 50p.

not really tbh i do wear my leathers inside the boot and like them to feel snug. They've also had a track day thrown in and i only wear them when going out for a play (other wise i wear my water proff ones).
