I heard Halfords used to buy their oil from a big name and just repackage it, but that changed a few years ago... I have no idea what oil they use these days. Anyone got any info?

I like how my rock oil is illuminous green :smt003
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

Good price and what i use and i wring the neck out the bike :smt003

In my cheaper day's I used car oil but that was with low cc bikes - i have read many times that they are not designed for bike wet clutches and cause damage/wear , car engines don't rev as high so the emulsifiers in them don't go beyond a certain rev range which in turn means they also don't grab onto the components as they are not designed to see 13,500 rev's.

The other side is they stay cleaner with more detergent cleaners in them as car engines produce more carbon and push fuel past the rings greater than bikes - but this gives a false impression that they are working fine cause at your oil change it comes out very clean looking, my Motul looks fecked after a 1,000Km's never mind 6,000 Miles !

used to use Silkolene red all the time in the bigger bikes with no problems and no regrets , I also liked how you could see it change colour and decide when to bin it for some new stuff :smt001

As for what's the best - that's about as bad as asking what tyres to use, it depends on how you ride your bike!

semi synth will protect longer if you thrash your engine as cellulose oils cope with higher heat than organic oils.
Simple test , put a frying pan on at half heat put some butter in and time how long it turns brown, do the same for some olive oil - be pre-paired to wait a long while.

Shame on you! Haven't you joined the revolution and started using peanut/ground nut oil???

Much healthier, much better taste (or lack of it), and higher flash point!
